Sonic The Hedgehog 20th Anniversary: Demo, App, and Discounts

Today marks the day that that chubby, speeding blur blew on to the scene and actually gave Mario a run for his money.

So how is Sega planning to celebrate? With a whole bunch of discounts on downloadable Sonic games, a free Sonic iOS app, and a demo (for a limited time) for their newest Sonic project, Sonic Generations, which will feature both Classic and Modern Sonic and levels designed from Sonic's 20 year history.

Hit the jump for all the details on the 20th celebration.

So today Sega put up the demo for Sonic Generations for Xbox Live and Playstation Network. It will only be up until the 12th of July so get it while you can! It features the first Green Hill Zone playable as classic Sonic and stereoscopic 3D for those of you with capable TV's. As of right now, modern Sonic isn't playable on the stage, but maybe he is hidden as some sort of easter egg.

Hey Nintendo, put Modern and Classic Sonic in the next Smash Bros.
And Tails.....................And Knuckles.

Sonic Generations will be coming to PS3, Xbox 360, 3DS, and PC. It will feature levels spread across three eras: Classic, Dreamcast, and Modern and the levels will be based on levels from Sonic's 20 year history.

The 3DS version will play similarly to Sonic Rush series. The 360 and PS3 version wil be a mix of classic 2D when you play as Classic Sonic and like Sonic Unleashed and Sonic Colors when playing as Modern Sonic.  Each stage will be playable as either character as well.

As for the iOS app, it will be available for six months and is free. It features the first level of Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 1, another game 'Sonic the Sketchhog', a new feed, and weekly wallpaper downloads. Right now it is only up on the Japanese App Store but it is coming to us here soon.

And for those of you wanting that nostalgia trip or those of you that haven't played a Sonic game, Sega has has you covered with sales on the classic games on both Xbox Live and the Playstation Network. What will you pick up?
