Metal Gear and Zone of the Enders Getting HD Remakes

Though Hideo Kojima said he wouldn't be at E3 and that Metal Gear Rising will be absent as well, doesn't mean that we won't still get some great news out of him.

Konami recently announced that it's bringing old Metal Gear Solid and Zone of the Enders games to both Xbox 360 and PS3 and that they are getting HD remakes.

You have the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection and the Zone of the Enders HD collection. Full details and pictures after the jump.

The Metal Gear Collection contains Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker. There are no details as to if Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3 are the Substance and Subsistence versions or if they are just the original games. It was said that MGS 2 and 3 will display at 720p and at 60 frames per second while Peace Walker will display at 1080p. They also said that Peace Walker will support a second analog stick since it was originally a PSP title and the PSP only has one analog stick.

Zone of the Enders includes Zone of the Enders and Zone of the Enders: The 2nd Runner and has no word if it will be 720p or 1080p.

These are not, I repeat, ARE NOT just ports of the old games. Both packages will include updated visuals both in art design and graphical upgrade, Trophy/Achievement Support, and better audio.

Kotaku has a great gallery showcasing the upgraded visuals for the Metal Gear games. Nothing yet on Z.O.E. though.

The PS3 versions of the games do showcase one unique feature called 'Transfarring" (No not a typo). What this means is that you will be able to take you save file for Peace Walker on the PS3, transfer it to your PSP, and continue playing from where you left off and vice versa.

What is a little bit unique though is that Zone of the Enders and the Metal Gear 1 and 2 collections also feature the "Transfarring" logo as well on the box. Now being a big PSP fan I know that neither of these games are available for PSP. Could it mean support for PS2 games on Sony's new NGP then? I'm thinking we will see PSTwo Classics for the Playstation Vita (formerly known as NGP) with the Metal Gears and Z.O.E games showing up. Why else would that logo be there?

Just confirm MGS4 along with these two and you will be able to play every single (canonical) Metal Gear Solid title on this bad boy.

Now for North America, the box art for the MGS HD Collection has all three listed in one package. What Konami Has in store for Japan is a whole lot more interesting though.

Japan's plans for the HD remakes.

On Kojima's Japanese E3 page, it lists Peace Walker separate from the other two Metal Gear games. The Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3 pack on PS3 includes a voucher to download the PSOne Classic version of the original Metal Gear Solid. Peace Walker HD on PS3 comes with a voucher code for the PSP version of Peace Walker on the PS3.

If you also click on the individual pages for all three, it has listed that they will also be available for download via the Playstation Network and Xbox Live. It hasn't been clarified if you have to buy each game individually, if they will be offered as a set, or if they will do both.

Unfortunately, there is no word if Konami plans to do the included vouchers or the XBL/PSN downloads in North America.

Metal Gear Solid HD Collection is scheduled to release November 2011 while Zone of the Enders HD Collection is to hit in 2012.

  1. Sweet Jorgy, looks like more games I have to buy this November. I think I might have to buy that NGP too, it's looking pretty awesome.
