Things to do with your PS3 without the Playstation Network

Yes it has been a sad week for PSN users all over the world. Due to a DDoS attack/Haxxorz/"Emergency Maintenance"/Fake Dev Accounts Sony has had to shut down the Playstation Network until possibly sometime within the next week.

But not all is lost! Remember back in the olden days before the internet when you actually had to go out into the world an interact with people in real life? You could go play sports, go to the movies, or even go to the mall and hang out. Actually, Playstation Lifestyle has a great review on this idea and some of you guys should probably check it out.

Now, for the rest of you who deem actual social interaction with those in the outside world harmful to yourself and especially others, here are some ideas to keep your PS3 on even though the PSN is off.

Single Player Games

Did you know games like Call of Duty and SOCOM 4 actually have a mode where you just play by yourself through a story? I know some of you guys working on your 7th Prestige on CoD might have missed that option on the main menu, so tossing that out there just to make sure. While most shooters nowadays single player modes really don't last that long there are tons of games that would take you dozens if not hundreds of hours to run through ONCE.

Hilarious Single Player!
Here's a list of some great ones:

- Uncharted Series
- Crysis 2
- Fallout 3/Fallout New Vegas
- God of War Collection/God of War III
- Portal 2
- Metal Gear Solid 4
- Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
- Assassin's Creed Series
- Star Ocean: The Last Hope International
- Red Dead Redemption

 Local Multiplayer and Co-op

On the flipside, there was a day and age where people used to gather at places like arcades or even one another's houses in order to play games. Lo and behold some game developers must have hung out at such  places because there are a few games that do feature this so-called "local multiplayer functionality." So pull up your contacts list, clear the junk off of your floor and vacuum it and invite some friends over for split-screen, LAN, or Co-op action!

You may try such games as:

- Rock Band/Guitar Hero
- Super Street Fighter IV
- Mortal Kombat
- Marvel Vs. Capcom 3
- Borderlands
- LEGO: Batman/Star Wars/Indiana Jones/Harry Potter
- Portal 2
- Rainbow Six Vegas 2
- Call of Duty
- Marvel Ultimate Alliance series
- Madden NFL 2012

Other Entertainment Options!

You know Sony's tagline for the PS3? "It only does ______."

Especially this one right now.
Well, short of cleaning, cooking, and taking on real responsibilities it almost does.

Music
You can play CD's on it and copy them onto the systems memory and even make mixtapes playlists to play as well. Some games even support a custom soundtrack option where it will play music stored on your hard drive. Also, if you have your PS3 connected to your network you can stream music from your computers on your network. So now you can sing along to all your favorite Glee songs!

Movies
Besides being a sweet gaming system, the PS3 is one of the best movie players money can buy. If you got one of those fancy HDTV's you can see the glory that is a Blu-Ray movie. Also, your PS3 will upscale regular old DVD's so they don't look like VHS quality on your TV. And once again if you have it connected to your network you can stream those digital copies of movies on your computer through your PS3.

Maybe it's time for you to catch up on what's been happening on Glee, huh?

Subtle Salvador, subtle...

PSOne Games
No I'm not talking all those PSOne Classics you downloaded (though they should still work). ALL Playstation 3 systems play PSOne games! So find those classic games that you have shoved into some box in your closet or attic and bring them out for some good old nostalgia.

May I recommend:

Final Fantasy Series
Bloody Roar Series
Legend of Dragoon
Medal of Honor
Tomba!

And for the lucky few of you that are able to play PS2 games on your PS3.....FOR HEAVENS SAKE USE IT!

Complete Desperation or I NEED ONLINE

Xbox Live is still up.......and PC games of course.
