WOO! Sony has begun the restoration of the Playstation Network. Right now you can download the mandatory system update (v3.61) which will force you to change the password associated with your account as an added security measure once the service has been restored in the area.
Sony is rolling out the PSN in phases though, restoring most services but not all, though the most important part, online play, will be back. In the following video, Kazuo Hirai outlines exactly what's going on and what services are to return.
And for those of you not wanting to sit through the video, the list of returning services is listed after the video as well.
Returning Playstation services:
- Signing in for PSN and Qriocity services. This will allow the change of your account passwords.
- Online play across both PSP and PS3.
- Video Rental service, as long as the rentals are within the rental time on your PS3, PSP, and the computer app MediaGo.
- Netflix, Hulu, Vudu, MLB.tv app restoration.
- Music Unlimited restoration for PS3 and PC.
- Friends list, trophy comparison, chat functionality.
- Playstation Home! (Who uses this?!)
Right now the PS Store is down and since that hasn't returned, it means Sony's Welcome Back program is not in play yet. Hopefully we will see the return of that by the end of the month.
Right now it looks like the Northeastern U.S. is the first to see the return of the PSN, but you can keep track of the restoration by visiting the restoration map on the Playstation Blog.
So what's are your plans with the return of the PSN? Watch a movie, visit your apartment on Home, or just go and brush up your noob pwning skills?
Do you guys even remember what this is? |
